Both brothers had 1 CONC earlier worked in the woods for their father Corey. While living in the 1 CONC forest camps the brothers spent 1 CONT all of their spare time in securing specimens on which to perfect the art 1 CONC of taxidermy. 1 CONT 1 CONT In 1925 Clarence built the first section of his tannery plant, and on 1 CONC different occasions afterwards constructed additions. For a time the 1 CONC plant was idle, for during the Second World War, he returned to uniform, 1 CONC first as a member of the 1 CONT Veteran's Guard, then for a time served with the 13th Forestry Battalion 1 CONC in Scotland, then came home to rejoin the guard. The military has always 1 CONC played a part in the Taylor family. Clarence' s son Roderick for 1 CONC instance, served in Korea, with the Princess Pats. 1 CONT 1 CONT During the First World War, Clarence served overseas with the Fighting 1 CONC 25th Battalion. He can claim the distiction of having been twice wounded 1 CONC the same day - once while on the front line (schrapnel in the hip) and 1 CONC again later while being attended at the dressing station. 1 CONT 1 CONT The Taylor tannery was different in that no purchase of hides is made for 1 CONC wholesale production. It is for people who bring deer or cattle skins 1 CONC directly to him that he calls his expert skills into play. Commissions 1 CONC from considerable 1 CONT distances-processing 10,000 deer tails sent from a Quebec firm which 1 CONC produced fishing flies. Tails were skinned, tanned and dried and 1 CONC reshipped to the owners where the hair was utilized in the angling 1 CONC product. 1 CONT He made unique moccasins, including pairs made from fish skin, and 1 CONC intended as bedroom slippers. Experimented with many kinds of skins, and 1 CONC many styles of products, his art bordering on perfection if it were to be 1 CONC sold. 1 CONT 1 CONT The tannery had a work bench for taxidermeny and about that room visitors 1 CONC could see many examples of his skill. All types of animals have been sent 1 CONC to him to be mounted. An aligator, wildcats, bears, any number of birds 1 CONC and fish have been among his special commissions. His son Bud worked a 1 CONC while for him from 1950 on. 1 CONT One day a plug inserted in the boiler became loosened while he was 1 CONC working on it, and was torn away by the force behind. He was badly 1 CONC scalded and a quantity of the steaming water went down his throat. 1 CONC Blinded and suffering excruciating pain, Clarence dashed to the nearby 1 CONC brook, and immersed his face in the water, and gulped down mouthfuls of 1 CONC the cooling liquid. Then, still without sight, he crawled up the bank on 1 CONC hands and knees, and reached his nearby home in this manner. After 1 CONC medical attention it was found his condition was still precarious and he 1 CONC was taken to Camp Hill Hospital in Halifax. He returned home, claiming 1 CONC to be just tough, "anyway, my own hide seems to be that way". Despite 1 CONC the scalding bath there wasn't a mark on his face. 1 CONT Halifax Chronicle-Herald. Merle was the 1 CONC oldest, and considered quite the oddball in the family (he gave each his 1 CONC nephews car trunk holders one Christmas when none of them had cars), then 1 CONC came Jay, who legally changed his name from Janay many years ago. She had had it for several years starting in her colon, and 1 CONC initially they were very determined to fight it. The struggle just wore 1 CONC them out, and around the time of her death, my sister-in-law Barbara 1 CONC (Bob's wife) was undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumor which had 1 CONC been recurring for about 5 years or so. 1 CONT After Ann died, he courted Sarah, the widow of a long time friend, 1 CONC ??Galloway. They married in 1981, I believe, and we all went to 1 CONC Baltimore for the wedding, staying at Anne's old family home which was 1 CONC called Longwood, named after the street it was on. I believe that Ernie 1 CONC felt that Sarah Galloway was the only woman who could possible measure up 1 CONC to Anne, and it ended up a major mistake. I don't believe she was able 1 CONC to be herself without constant comparison, and they eventually divorced 1 CONC after a couple of years.
